Out for a cruise.

This is a photograph that I took, oh, probably 10 years ago, many years before I made taking pictures of birds a hobby. We were on a Caribbean cruise and this brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) was perched on the ship's railing ... hmmm ... it may have been a charter boat, I'm not sure. I think it's cooler now than I did back then.

A couple of gouache studies I did based on your photograph. I really love this guy he seems like he's really in charge. I usually do two sketches in my Gouache journal. The one of the left is almost always a warm up piece and the one on the right is me correcting the mistakes. I might go big next and do him as an oil painting now that I understand his composition better.
